NMS Delivers Complete Equipment for Aggregates Processing System No.2 at Caculo Cabaça Hydropower Project

2026.03.19

Recently, the No.2 aggregate processing system of the Caculo Cabaça Hydropower Project in Angola was officially completed and put into operation. The system was constructed by China Energy Engineering Group Gezhouba, with all main equipment across the production line supplied by NMS.

With a total installed capacity of 2,172 MW, the Caculo Cabaça Hydropower Project is currently the largest energy project undertaken by Chinese enterprises in Angola. It is also a key project under the high-quality Belt and Road Initiative and is widely known as the “Three Gorges of Africa.” Upon completion, the project is expected to generate an average annual output of 8,566 GWh, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 7.2 million tonnes per year, and provide strong and stable power support for Angola’s economic and social development.

The newly commissioned No.2 aggregate processing system covers an area of approximately 110,000 m². Using gneiss excavation material as feed, the system features a designed processing capacity of 855 t/h and a monthly production capacity of 462,500 tonnes. It is the largest and most technologically advanced aggregate processing system built in Angola to date. Core equipment supplied by NMS includes nearly 50 units, covering the full process from primary crushing to sand washing, such as JC Jaw Crushers, CC Single-Cylinder Cone Crushers, HS Impact Crushers, VS Vertical Shaft Impact Crushers, YKR Circular Vibrating Screens, ZKR Linear Screens, WCD Spiral Sand Washers, HPF Grizzly Feeders, and GZG Vibrating Feeders. The system is capable of stably producing six types of finished aggregates, fully meeting the material supply requirements for the dam’s main concrete construction.

To ensure smooth system operation, NMS deployed after-sales service engineers to the project site from the early stage of installation, providing on-site guidance and training throughout the process. With close coordination between NMS and the client’s project team, the system progressed from equipment and steel structure installation starting on December 15, 2025, to successful commissioning on March 5, 2026—completed within just 82 days, demonstrating outstanding project execution efficiency.

Caculo Cabaça Hydropower Project 100 t/h Aggregate Processing System

Notably, as early as 2019, NMS had already supplied a complete set of equipment for a 100 t/h aggregate processing system at the same project. Since its commissioning in 2020, that system has delivered stable and reliable continuous operation, effectively supporting high-intensity construction requirements. Its consistent feed supply performance and equipment durability have been fully validated. Based on this proven performance, the client once again selected NMS for the construction of the No.2 system, reflecting strong recognition of NMS’s products and services.

In fact, the cooperation between NMS and Gezhouba Group has a long history. From early projects such as the Three Gorges, Guoduo, Wudongde, Houziyan, Baihe, and Ma’erdang hydropower stations, to navigation and power hub projects, multiple domestic pumped storage projects, and the Karot Hydropower Project in Pakistan, the two parties have jointly delivered numerous major projects. Recently, NMS was once again awarded the contract for the Phase I works of the new channel project at the Three Gorges Hub, further extending this long-standing partnership.

This renewed cooperation on the Angola Caculo Cabaça Hydropower Project marks another important milestone for NMS in following Gezhouba Group’s Belt and Road initiatives from domestic to international markets. It also serves as strong evidence of both parties’ joint contribution to the development of global hydropower.

The rapid construction and successful commissioning of the No.2 aggregate processing system have laid a solid material foundation for the continued development of this “Three Gorges of Africa” project. It once again demonstrates the efficient collaboration and strong execution capabilities of Chinese enterprises in large-scale international projects. As an equipment supplier, NMS has contributed reliable products and full-process technical services, supporting the advancement of key Belt and Road projects with high-quality Chinese equipment. Looking ahead, NMS will continue to work with global partners to deliver superior equipment and services, create sustained value for customers, and contribute to the development of global green energy.(Liu Xiaohan)
