In his speech, Gong Youliang stated that NMS, founded in 1970, is a national-level specialized enterprise focusing on mineral and aggregate processing technology R&D, high-end equipment manufacturing, production operations, and intelligent operation and maintenance services. He emphasized that the company firmly believes “talent is the primary resource.” For many years, NMS has continuously established scholarships at well-known universities and deepened industry-university-research cooperation, not only as a way of giving back to society, but also as a reflection of its strong commitment to talent cultivation. He noted that the decision to cooperate with USTB was driven by the university’s long-standing reputation as the first higher education institution for the steel industry founded after the establishment of New China, widely recognized as the “Cradle of the Steel Industry.” Under the leadership of distinguished experts such as Academician Cai Meifeng, USTB has cultivated a large number of outstanding professionals for China’s mining industry.

Gong Youliang further pointed out that the mining industry is a fundamental sector closely linked to national resource security and industrial development, calling on generations of practitioners to forge ahead continuously. He encouraged students to make the most of their college years, remain grounded, and strive forward with perseverance, contributing their talent and commitment to help China progress from a “major mining nation” to a “powerful mining nation.” He also stated that NMS will use this cooperation as an opportunity to further deepen industry-university-research collaboration with USTB and explore broader possibilities in talent cultivation, technological innovation, and the commercialization of research achievements. “We welcome outstanding USTB students to join the domestic and international platforms of NMS, write their theses on the front lines of mining operations, integrate their wisdom into innovative products, and work together with us to build smart mines and create a greener future,” he said.

On behalf of the School, Miao Shengjun delivered a speech of appreciation, extending sincere thanks to Academician Cai Meifeng and his wife, as well as all donating enterprises. He stated that the School is an important hub in China for talent cultivation and scientific research in mining, safety engineering, mechanics, and geology, and has always attached great importance to talent development. The School has established an international mining engineering program, newly launched a strategic resource development and intelligent innovation class with guaranteed postgraduate recommendation opportunities for all enrolled students, and introduced an advanced mechanics program. Last year, three students from the School received the President’s Medal of USTB. The undergraduate employment rate ranked first across the university, the employment relevance to industry also ranked first, while the postgraduate recommendation and further education rates ranked third university-wide. He encouraged all students to strengthen their confidence in their chosen disciplines, remain diligent and persistent, uphold gratitude and a spirit of serving the nation, and strive to become high-quality professionals and future industry leaders with the resilience and responsibility to contribute to national development.

The donation and the inauguration of the Practice Education Base mark a new chapter in the cooperation between NMS and USTB. Taking this opportunity as a new starting point, both parties will fully leverage their respective strengths in industry and scientific research, jointly explore new models of industry-education integration, cultivate high-quality mining professionals with both patriotic commitment and practical capabilities, and work together to promote technological progress and high-quality development in the mining industry.
